June holds profound significance for Black women: it's both Juneteenth, commemorating our ancestors' hard-won freedom, and PTSD Awareness Month. These observances underscore the deep intersections of systemic trauma and chronic stress that continue to impact Black women and girls, manifesting not only historically but in today's alarming realities. Our community is disproportionately affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and exploitation for human trafficking/commercial sex, while also facing devastating economic setbacks like the loss of 106,000 jobs as of April 2025, leaving our demographic with the nation's highest unemployment rate. At BOSS Sistah Network, we recognize these profound burdens and their impact on mental well-being and resilience.
This June, we're dedicated to fostering holistic healing and empowerment. We will be interviewing trauma survivors throughout the month to learn their stories, celebrate how they turned pain into purpose, and share vital resources for victims of trauma. Stay tuned to our social media, website, and e-blast updates for detailed information about our upcoming PTSD Awareness/Juneteenth events, including our transformative PTSD Peer Support Circle, the crucial Survivors of Trauma Donation Drive, and our empowering Rise Up: Black Women and Friends Economic Empowerment Event. Let's heal, rise, and thrive together!
